Sample Population Descriptions


African Descent (Jackson = JD, Coreill = AD)

The JD population of 24 African-American individuals is composed of DNA available from Jackson, MS. These samples are part of a hypertension study in American Blacks (See Family Blood Pressure Program). The AD population of 24 individuals (12 male/12 female) is composed of DNA available from the Coriell Cell Repository. These individuals were selected from the human variation panel of 50 African Americans (HD50AA). Coriell Cell Repository identification numbers for all samples are available upon request. The in-house laboratory coding for individuals from this population begin with a "D" (e.g., D001).


European Descent (Rochester = RD, North Karelia = ND)

This population of 48 European-descent individuals is composed of 24 individuals from North Karelia, Findland and 24 individuals from Rochester, MN. The DNA samples from the North Karelia individuals were collected as part of the Finrisk Hemostasis Study. The DNA samples from the Rochester individuals were collected as part of the Rochester Family Heart Study.
